Kindergarten Department

Ghars Kindergarten department consists of PK, KG1 and KG2. It offers a bilingual education in an Islamic setting. Our goal is to develop students with active and creative minds, a sense of understanding and compassion for others, and the courage to act on their beliefs. We stress the total development of each child: spiritual, moral, intellectual, social, emotional, and physical. Our program focuses on the needs of the whole child and it includes the following subjects.

 

English: Our English Language program follows American Common Core State Standards while utilizing Pearson Learning Journey curriculum. It integrates Reading, Language Arts (Morning Calendar and Circle Time), Math and Science and utilizes print, CD, DVD, and digital resources to help the teachers deliver the right skills at the right time.

 

Math: Ghars follows Common Core Standards along with Learning Journey curriculum in our Math Kindergarten department. Our lesson time includes stories, group discussions, instruction, games and activities that teach important concepts related to the curriculum.

 

Science: Ghars follows Common Core Standards along with Learning Journey curriculum in our Science Kindergarten department. Our lesson time includes stories, group discussions, instruction, games and activities that teach important concepts related to the curriculum.

 

Arabic: Ghar’s KG Arabic curriculum is Loghaty Kanzy (My language is my treasure) which is acquired from Lebanon.

 

Islamic Studies: The Islamic Curriculum of our Kindergarten Department includes both Qur’an recitation and Islamic teachings. Each grade level has a number of Surahs to memorize.

 

Holy Qur’an: KG Islamic Studies curriculum is broken down into 5 Units: Al –Aqida, Al Hadith, Al Fiqh, Al Azkar, and the Biography of the Prophet Mohammad (PBUH).

 

In addition to the above, our students receive in English:

Centers: Center time is structured to allow students to make choices about their activities. During Center time, both Teacher and Teacher Assistants interact, observe, and informally assess students. Our Center time gives students the opportunity to develop both socially and academically.

Recess: Gross motor activities are an integral part of our curriculum. We provide a daily block of Gross Motor activities including PE activities that are age appropriate for our students.

Snack time: We believe that it is important for the students to eat healthy. During our snack time, the teacher incorporates healthy habits – table manners along with Islamic eating etiquette.

Story time: To reinforce a love of reading our students participate daily in Story Time. We introduce simple stories to introduce the concepts of Setting, Characters and Events.
